My best photos. Or so I think.

Some more of my photos in this post if you missed it: Fort Santiago: A Philippine Relic

Photography has always intrigued me because an aspect of it seems real. I am an art lover, and while paintings and the like are beautiful photography is different because each picture literally freezes a moment in time for future reference. Photography captures what other art-forms express.
- Monkey Wrench

I really should be blogging about how my last day ended as a Computer Science student today but friends requested (especially Monkey Wrench; check him out if you have the time, by the way! He's got some really fierce posts in his blog most especially about Anarchism. So I recommend that you guys check him out) that I should post photos that I've taken. Okay so, here are some of them and a little history of each photo. Tell me if I have the potential to be a good Photographer, LOL.
This was where I spent 10 years studying Grade School and High School. In here I also met my greatest friends, the friends that I know will stay around for a lifetime. This school witnessed my nervousness and clumsiness as I trot through Grade School and a totally different person who cracked her shell when she stepped into High School and learned to bully kids hahaha. But hey, I changed when I stepped into 9th grade and realized bullying was totally stupid and mean! The photo with the black clouds was taken from a classroom window. The one with the amazing sky was taken in front of the Auditorium. The gold on the center is St. Vincent De Paul turning his back on me hahaha. An evening with friends after someone's birthday. Will never forget this night. The cocktails and the Grilled Sausages we ordered were so expensive! But my drink, an Irish Bailey's is one of the best cocktails ever. It's got some Bailey's in it, some gin, milk and of course, ice. The Grilled Sausages were amazing too.My cousin preparing for her debut. Self Timer. I don't remember if I was really sad but my pose suggests that I was not in a good mood so I set it on Black and White hahaha. My last days in High School. This was around March 2007, before our Graduation. Papers were strewn all over the floor, chairs in every direction and lockers were open. You can guess that everyone was excited for Summer Vacation!Shakey's Hawaiian Pizza. One of my favorites but then again, I have loads of favorites hahaha.A lone Chocolate Shake. Better if enlarged SO CLICK IT!Sky over Mall of Asia.Mall of Asia. At night.Taken earlier today. Someone was arranging a portfolio.Bottled Water. Was on a Bus leaving the province for Manila (capital of the Philippines). Situation when we arrived in Manila.

Phew, finally done! So what do you think, do I have the potential to be a Photographer? Hahaha! Photos were taken using a PSP cam (1.2MP) A Motorola V3i of the same quality and a Roco 12MP thing. Hahaha 12MP that's funny, it's not a DSLR. Any tips and tricks from Photographers out there?

Much Love,

Well -since you asked -but keep in mind I know nothing about anything technical regarding photography, arranging, cameras, camera settings, etc. -but I will tell you this, I enjoy looking at your photos. You post a wide variety here of type, topic, etc., and from my unprofessional viewpoint, I think you've got loads of talent in the photo realm. A hell of a lot more than I have since I just try to take pictures simply to capture the memory and not an essense of something or other. I don't have the foresight to see interesting things that way as you and several other bloggers I follow seem able to do.

HalfCrazy said...

@Alpha - Thanks! The night lights were taken like, a year ago! But the place still looks like that today hahaha!

@Jeni - Actually, I don't know about them technical photography stuff too! I like technical stuff but the arranging and the camera settings? I get confused but I'm always willing to learn! Thanks for the insightful comment! Glad that you enjoyed looking at my photos, I think that's saying something! You're also right about capturing the memory but I thin the two go hand in hand! Thank you so much! :)

Love the street lights, the portfolio, and the shakeys shot!

I think you have a lot of potential, (this coming from someone who is not a professional by any means). However, I know that I like the way you compose your subject matter in your photos and you have some really interesting things you do with lighting. Keep it up!

Awesome pictures! I love the one with your cousin. The mirror shot is great. And the one with you in black and white. You could really get emotion out of the picture!

Yup you have great potential! Best of all if it's something you love, you should definitely go for it.

And thanks for the comment. Dinner was for two actually.. my mom and me :)

Very good pictures! Thanks for sharing. You have a very good eye for photos.

O.O

Youre already a photographer. Theyre all relly great especially the one with the classroom trashed. (thats my fav =]) If you shuld become a photographer instead of a pshycologist. =P

you should submit them into a deviantart account, you could get feedback frm other ametaur photographers and maybe a few buys.

lol, you? a bully? no way. lol

Well now....

THANK YOU for the plug. A lot!! I'm trying to increase traffic to my blog, and you, with all your friends and viewers could help me do just that. I'm flattered really.

On to your photos--

Photography has always intrigued me because an aspect of it seems real. I am an art lover, and while paintings and the like are beautiful (and my preferred medium when creating) photography is different because each picture literally freezes a moment in time for future reference. Photography captures what other art-forms express.

I think your pictures are fantastic, especially The 'Last Day in High School' and "The Situation When we Arrived in Manila.' Both seem very real, very topical and tangible and sharp. Well taken too!!

Again, thank you for all your kind words!! Reading your blog is a joy, and it has inspired me to (sometimes) avoid all the Anarchist rhetoric and post some more personal stuff, like concert reviews, and maybe even posting some of my pencil work.

HalfCrazy said...

@Ron - Of course you love the Shakey's shot! It's food after all! :P

@Mav - Hahaha, thanks. Not a professional photographer myself, I don't even have a DSLR once, mainly because it's expensive. But the subject is more beautiful proper lighting. I always try to capture the light that comes from the sun as it is more natural. :)

@Trini - Thanks! The Mirror Shot is actually one of my favorites! It just so happens the lighting and the camera's quality was great. I thought you live by yourself, this is the first time you said something about your family! :)

@Michael - Thanks! :)

@Johnny - I actually have some more shots of the classroom messed up but this, I think, is the best out of 'em. It's like a beautiful mess! Hey, I could be a Photographer and a Psychologist, right? But I'll get into that later hahaha! I had an account on Deviant Art but I was kinda intimidated because all of them are REAL professional artists who spent their time honing their skills! Yeah, I was a Bully back then, for about a year.

@Faisal - Thanks! Seems like that's a new account you have there. It won't let me in! A story? Well, the bottom line is life goes on especially in the city, no matter what!

@Jackc50 - Thanks for the tip, I love capturing the light, especially when it's natural, coming from the sun. You're right, I'll get loads of ideas from books, movies, music, blogger friends and many more!

@Wrench - No problem. The key is to comment on people's pages who have loads of comments. It's a sign that they return comments. Just remember to give insightful feedbacks! :) I loved what you said about Photography so I put it up there! I didn't know that you can do some 'pencil work'. Yeah, I reckon you should post more personal stuff mixed with Anarchist rhetoric. A balance of two would be great. :)

Excellent work. I especially like the tilted photo. Keep it up.

I also liked the b/w photo (I am partial to b/w) and I liked the last photo.

Do join us on our photo shoot out next week. It is houses.

Yeah, everyine in deviantart is too good, Im a ashamed ofmy own work when I submit it.lol

HalfCrazy said...

@Patty - Thanks! A praise from a professional Photographer! Yay! Hahaha! Left you a message regarding the shootout! :)

@Johnny - You draw, right? Hahaha, well I guess there's place for 'amateurs' there but it's just too intimidating! LOL.

Out of all of these, I think I like the one of your last day at school the best because there are so many interpretations that could be made about that picture. Happy - yes but also a sense of desolation in a way that the easiest days of your life are behind you and the tough part of the journey now begins.

I think you have a great eye for your subject and yes, I do think that you could be a photographer. But that's just my own humble opinion!

TheChicGeek said...

Great photos! You have a very cool blog :)

HalfCrazy said...

@Linda - Aww, that is such a sweet message! Actually, all of us are already complaining that being in College is so tough, already full of problems and adults won't go easy on us. Fun but tough. But we'll always miss High School!

@TheChicGeek - Thank you! I like your blog too. :)

HalfCrazy said...

@Faisal - No, I don't even know how to activate the gas thing LOL.

@Steve - That is an inspiring message, I hope you and all the Cancer patients continue to fight it. I'm sure humans would find a way to eliminate Cancer completely someday. It has taken too much lives.

Anonymous said...

No, you don't have the potential to be a good photographer...

Kidding! :]]

I really like all of the pics that you've taken specially the "last days in High School" photo. There's something melancholic with the picture that I really like.

How I wish I have a better Camera ._. /envy xD

Paige said...

nice pics!! I like it.. it makes me think that Manila is really a nice place, if you know what i mean.. Have you gone to vigan?

HalfCrazy said...

@Mike - Tangina mo, Marze. Kidding! =')) I have loads of them classroom photos but I chose that one above because it's the best one. The other ones involve my friends and I think they ruin the feel. HAHA LOL. I don't even have a good camera either! But we'll see when I get the Digicam from my Dad! We're gonna take awesome photos of the Ilog Pasig! ='))

@Paige - Sometimes I'm surprised too. Whenever I take a photo somewhere in Manila, I'm like, "Is this Manila? Is Manila THIS beautiful?" hahaha. I've never been there. In fact, I've only been to Isabela, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, a little bit of Bataan and Manila. Boring, I know LOL.

John said...

I love all your pics and think you are already great at it! I especially love the view of St. Vincent De Paul...that picture is amazing! It sure is beautiful in the Philippines! All your pictures seem to tell a story, great work!

Missy said...

Thanks for always visiting my site, I like your shots with portfolio, the hawaiian pizza (looks yummy!!!) and you in black and white :-), I'm a newbie in photoraphy so I can't comment on your photos for me they're all look good :-)keep it up. My daughter is starting to like photography too and I think you have the same age :-)

HalfCrazy said...

@John - Actually, I aim for each photo to tell a story! I mean, Photography is also capturing the essence, right? And all that stuff! If you think Manila is beautiful, wait until you see the other parts of the country.

@Missy - Yay thanks! Kids my age also becomes interested in Photography. Like I said, I think everyone goes through that phase. Some continue to love it while some, it's just a phase.

It is amazing how the black and white photo has contributed to the sad tone. Looks like you are adept at using photography tricks.

I love the debut photo too. It is beautiful the way you have captured her in the little mirror (with her mobile) and how the person in front is busy. Very nice.

HalfCrazy said...

Hi there, Ivs. I'm just actually sort of experimenting, don't know much about technical Photography stuff! I just set it on what looks best. If colored, black and white or sepia! :) Thanks for the comment about my mirror photo! :D

You have a really fantastic eye and I really hope that you will join us the Friday for "Friday Shoot-Out". Like Patty said, this week it's houses. Any house that strikes your fancy.
As good as you are, I'd love to see the houses in your area through your eyes.
You have a wonderful blog that I enjoy very much.
Take good care Half-Crazy and.......

HalfCrazy said...

Thanks Ms. Reggie Girl! I'm already working on the houses (in another neighborhood) but I gotta sneak in some way to take photos of houses on my neighborhood as it will be kind of weird in here to take photos with people looking, hahaha. Early in the morning, people start to come out and chat with other neighbors. I'm not too close to my neighbors. :) Thanks for the nice words and for dropping by!

Hiya Half Crazy - thanks for dropping by earlier... these are goooood photos and I love the images of your beautiful country. Yep, I know about the steamiing feeling of the heat - was born in Malaysia and lived in tropical parts elsewhere for a lot of my life. Take care and keep on taking those great images... see you soon Vxx

HalfCrazy said...

Thanks! Ooh, seems like you move a lot! :)

Garando said...

You definitely have potential to be a great photographer! I noticed from the way you frame your photos and how you cast your subjects. Now all you need is a DSLR so you can make have more control when taking photos and you should be all set! Good job! ;)
You definitely have the "eye" of a photographer!

It's interesting to see just how pervasive memory has become in our everyday lives. It seems like everytime I turn my head, I see something with a card slot or USB jack . I guess it makes sense though, considering how much more afforable memory has become as of late...

Ahhh, I shouldn't be moaning and groaning. I can't get by a single day without using my R4 / R4i!
