The Oscars and some Vintage Movies.

Damn the word verification thing. I removed that feature as there are no spammers anyway... so far. So sorry for the inconvenience but I encountered the problem in other blogs too. So the problem must be Blogger. So that's why I didn't receive comments yesterday!

I just had a really bad case of LBM this morning that's why I excused myself from my only class today... just saying.

Okay so, I'm mighty glad that the President declared a National Holiday yesterday so I was able to watch the 81st Academy Awards which aired at 7AM in here. I woke up at 6.30AM, just for this thing. Hey, I'm a lover of films so I can't miss this for the world! Anyway, here are my rants and raves:

  • Seriously. What is up with Miley Cyrus? Her dress looks fabulous from the belt up but the other half is simply ridiculous. I LOLed at some comments from Yahoo, here are some of them just for fun:
"Has she been to the UK to see the queen? If so, she looks as if she's wearing the curtains from the queen's kitchen." - Cougar K
"yes, i hate her, now she looks like a human christmas tree in the beginning of March!!" - Loretta
"Miley! Stop! Don't let them take over your young and impressionable mind! You can do it... you can dress yourself. Next time, remember you are 16 , not 50!" - Rmk

She's probably one of the worst dressed I've seen in the event. Runner-ups include Mickey Rourke (could have been better!) and Philip Seymour Hoffman's cap.
  • Best dressed: Angelina Jolie who looked extravagant in her rather simple but elegant gown, Penelope Cruz who looked absolutely stunning, Taraji P. Henson who looked very classy with her sassy hairdo and elegant white gown and Hugh Jackman who absolutely looked dashing!
  • Hugh Jackman was a very good host, he kept me entertained with his little intermission numbers.
  • Slumdog Millionaire bagged 8 Oscars (including Best Motion Picture) and everyone involved in the film deserve this success. Hoping to see more of Freida Pinto!
  • I'm glad Penelope Cruz took home an Oscar. When she got on stage and delivered her speech, I can't help but melt because of her to-die-for Spanish accent. Definitely the Spanish Enchantress!
  • Yay, Kate Winslet finally took home an Oscar. Damn it, give her ten more!
  • The short film starring James Franco and Seth Rogen was funny. They laughed whenever there's drama on-screen, especially scenes from Doubt, hahaha!
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button received 13 nominations and bagged 3 Oscars. I'm glad Brad Pitt didn't win Best Actor.
  • I was touched with Queen Latifah's performance.
  • Tina Fey was hilarious and awesome, paired with Steve Martin.
  • Jack Black, Robert Pattinson and Adrien Brody didn't bother to shave or fix their hair.
  • I think Sarah Jessica Parker's dress is ridiculous.
  • Heath Ledger deserves the Posthumous Oscar Award.
That's pretty much it. And Beyonce's gold and black gown is really beautiful but sort of exaggerating.

And oh, since we're talking about films, let me just post my favorite classic movies.
Breakfast At Tiffany's. Starring highly-acclaimed Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard.
  • I will never forget when Audrey Hepburn, looking out at the road, sings Moon River while George Peppard looks on.
  • I have never read Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's but I'm planning to.
  • The lead actress was originally Marilyn Monroe but her agent said that it's not good for her image to portray Holly Golightly (she smokes, drinks, etc.) so the role went to Audrey Hepburn instead and I'm glad it did.
To Kill A Mockingbird. Starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, Mary Badham as Jean Louise "Scout" Finch and Phillip Alford as Jem. (I forgot his real name lol but it was something like Jeremy Finch?)
  • I have read the book but enjoyed the movie more.
  • It's a shame that the two kids who played Scout and Jem were not very successful in their career. I've read somewhere that Mary Badham continues to visit schools to promote the film and relive it while Phillip Alford is involved in a construction work thing.
  • As far as I know, this is the only book that Harper Lee was able to publish. She was really good friends with Truman Capote, writer of the mentioned Breakfast At Tiffany's. (Got that info from the Capote film, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. It's a film about In Cold Blood and his struggles.)
Gone With The Wind. Starring Vivien Leigh as Katie Scarlett O'Hara and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler. Based on Margaret Mitchell's Gone With The Wind.
  • Wow. This has got to be the best movie I've seen all my life. I have read the book and I was caught up in the mania leading me to this film. Margaret Mitchell captured every single detail of the South's triumphs and defeats, a war novel that is never boring.
  • I know all of the characters (perhaps close to a hundred) by heart as they are all memorable.
  • I could go on and on about Gone With The Wind.
  • Vivien Leigh was perfect as Scarlett O'Hara. Perhaps because she is a lover of the acclaimed war novel. She embodied Scarlett's braveness and selfishness, among other qualities.
  • Favorite Line: "As God Is My Witness, I'll never be hungry again!" - Scarlett O'Hara
  • I love the book as it is. I refuse to read Rhett Butler's People and Scarlett as they were not written by Margaret Mitchell. She's the only one who knows how to manipulate the characters as it's her own.

What about you, what do you think about the Oscars, any rants and raves? Worst and best dressed? People who should not be there? Feel free to share your favorite vintage movies!

Much Love,

@Trini - Where are you gonna spend that money anyway? Hide it all in your bank account? Hahaha! :) I actually don't know how to choose custom layouts but yeah, I feel like changing, I guess this suits me better! Well, they say Miley is there because her parents are popular and she's got an upcoming movie LOL. Which will probably suck? lol

@johnny boi - Hmm, what do you mean? You mean how to get more people to comment on your blog? It would be a great idea if you sign up in Blog Catalog and interact with people there. That's how I started lol.

Hi!
Can you keep a secret?
I haven't watch oscar yet. Too busy to watch them.
See you around.

@lunaticg - Not a secret anymore! You posted it here! :P

Heyy yeahhh.. it's been great! and thanks for keeping in touch like always?

If you signed up under me I get a commission of what you earn. It doesn't take away from your earnings or anything. But it's cool to sign up under someone because you get alot of help. I didn't sign up under anyone and kinda hard to learn everything the hard way :/

If you really wanna do it tho I'd be willing to help you out all the way. Just message me back using the message center in cashcrate that way I see what # referral you are and send me your email when you send the message so I'll email you the tips of what to do next.

Looking forward to your next post :)

@michael - Posted a comment on your Oscars blog! Will come back later for the Aegis Event post as I'm running out of time. I'm gonna be late for school!

@Trini - Alright, I'll do all of that later but I'm wondering why there are no offers available for me lol! Does it happen? Like, running out of offers? And poor you knowing it the hard way! But at least you're sort of an expert now! :)

Hey love the blog. The oscars were really something this year weren't they? I agree about the Miley dress. Would have been better if she was about 30 years older. Its still sick looking tho. I'd want it haha.

HalfCrazy said...

@prongs - Actually, this is the first time I was actually interested in the oscars. 2008 was the year I've fallen so bad for movies! So I don't know about the other oscars lol. :)

Take care!

@trini - Saving up for College? That's great, I hope you finish your studies! What course are you gonna take anyway? Seems like you'll go for something Business-y! :)

@mav - I'll probably be posting something new tomorrow, need to do annoying and boring school stuff first! See you later!

Do all the girls in Spain speak like Penelope Cruz? That would be amazing.

I find it hard to watch old movies no matter how highly recommended they come. Maybe after reading your reviews I am a little more inclined :)

HalfCrazy said...

@Ivs - Yeah I know, her accent is so uhm, sexy? Hope I didn't sound gay there LOL. Unfortunately, I don't do any in-depth reviews as I'm not a fan of very lengthy stuff about one subject lol. It's fun to watch movies, especially the great ones. After watching them, you'll be like, "Wow, how could I miss this?!" :) Thanks for returning the favor.

First off, one little complaint here about your blog -I found it very difficult to find the comments button so I could leave a message here.
But after that, I wanted to thank you for visiting my place and commenting. Yes, I am a huge fan of Gone With the Wind -I've read the book at least three times over the years, seen the movie several times as well and I love it every time I watch it too! I also loved To Kill A Mockingbird -book and movie both! Harper Lee and Margaret Mitchell -to my knowledge -are both one book authors and quite famous for those "ONE" books too but they were both fantastic writers in my opinion. For whatever that is worth!
Stop back and visit some more. I'm not very up on movies as I rarely go see any in the theater -wait till it comes out on DVD or is on TV and then watch the ones I am interested in.
Oh and spammers -yes, they are out there. I've been hit a few times on my blog but decided against the word verification as I just delete them if they post a spam message on a new post. Sometimes they will hit a post I did well over a year ago and I just let those stay -figure not that many go back and read the archives.
Peace.
Peace.

@jeni - Sorry about the comment link, Ma'am! I really have no idea when it comes to customizing Blogger stuff. I don't even know how to get a different template not provided by Blogger! It gives me an error. So until I figure out how to make my site easier to navigate, this hard-to-find-link will be much easier to see! 3 times over the years? Well I bet you're gonna read it some more! I know I will!

You're right about Ms. Margaret and Ms. Harper! I think they have one or two other works which were never published! Would have been better if they publish some more as they are GREAT storytellers! And yes Ma'am, I'm gonna stop by your blog whenever possible! I hope the spammers don't bother you again, or me, or anyone in the future! :)

Thank you for leaving a meaningful comment! :)

HalfCrazy said...

@zman - Haven't watched The Wrestler yet but everyone, before the Oscars, already thought Mickey Rourke would get it! I hope more indie films come out! Most of the time, they're better than mainstream.

Garando said...

Got an old movie to recommend: Citizen Kane. You might like it. ;)
